Verification of Building Structures Using Point Clouds and Building Information Models

The effort towards automation of the building industry processes has increased significantly over last years worldwide. One key tools in this process is modeling buildings using Building Information Modeling (BIM). When following fundamental principles, a BIM model serves as an up-to-date pool information. Combining results effective spatial data collection techniques with information from model, it possible to increase effectiveness as-built documentation structures or in-site clash detection between built and planned parts. In paper, we describe approach for verification by comparing created point clouds as-planned building. can be collected laser scanning photogrammetry, while geometry (designed) derived Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) format. advantage that regression models preprocessed detailed segmentation. deviations design relative (e.g., flatness) elements are expressed signed color maps. presented workflow enables semi-automated structures.
